On the Road to Certified Internet Webmaster-dom

I’ve bitten the bullet, and ordered out for the CIW Foundations course. That comes with 3 (by all accounts giant) textbooks, practice exams, online teaching aids and a voucher for the exam at the end. From what I understand the Foundations course covers all the internet basics from networking, to mark-up languages to… well I … Read more

Wildflower Walk with Michael Ross

On February 12, the California Native Plant Society sponsored a free wildflower walk led by Yosemite-area naturalist Michael Ross, and breaking out of our normal routines, Tom and I decided to see what it was all about. Simply amazing. It was a ‘wildflower walk’ which meant that it focused on flowers, but the thing is, … Read more

I won an iPod nano!

The last few weeks have been extraordinarily heads down as I prepared for a Marketing Summit presentation that was going to be given to all Parks & Resorts marketing staff in Tenaya Lodge. Fortunately, it seems to have paid off. Not only was my talk well-received, I made a couple of really great contacts at … Read more

I found my wallet!

It was in the front passenger seat of the pickup truck, on top of the Harry Potter CDs that haven’t quite made it back to the shelf where they belong. New Family Member!

My new niece, Malerie Ann Ho, was born April 15th weighing 7lbs and 6 oz. Isn't this a great picture? Tom and I are scheming various ways that we can go visit.

Image of the Year

This year, Tom got really into photography (and even sold one to National Geographic as mentioned here somewhere or other), but hands down, without question, that our Picture of the Year is this one:

Theresa in Major Accident – Oct 22

As most people know (it was on the front page of the paper here), Theresa dislodged a boulder about four feet in diameter and it rolled over, causing major spinal damage, broken ribs, 20% pneumothorax (collapsed lung), broken fibula and somme major crush wounds (i.e. muscle and other deep tissue damage) on her legs. Despite … Read more

National Geographic likes me

[Written by Tom] Much to my surprise, National Geographic is buying one of my pictures to use on the cover of one of its Trails Illustrated maps. They are doing a new series of maps of Yosemite that will divide the park into four quadrants and do a high-quality, fairly large-scale map (50′ contour intervals) … Read more
