Climbing at Swan Slab

It's been a little more than 6 months since I got hurt, and with the return of the pleasant spring weather, I'd gotten the bug to try climbing again. I finally made it out on Friday, April 4/27/07 to the beginner climbing area called Swan Slab.

We made it an event of sorts. Two friends from work who had never tried climbing joined me. Tom, and another friend, Jason, were responsible for setting the climbing routes up while I helped Po and Lynette into harnesses and tried to explain what was going on.

The crux of the day was either slipping my tight climbing shoes on (my left foot is still messed up somehow from my accident, although the docs weren't able to find anything wrong with it), or stepping into the climbing harness.

The climbing itself was great. We intentionally chose routes that would be technically very easy for me just to see how moving over the rock went. The next day my back was a tiny bit sore, but in a better, healthier sort of way than when I spend a lot of time in the office.

All in all, it was a great sucess, and I'm looking forward to making another trip to the crags. I don't need to push it, but getting my strength back and getting back on the rocks feels wonderful.
